We conducted our first range test of the LoRa radio system.
Our testing was done in an open field. Unfortunately the weather conditions weren’t ideal, but we still conducted tests at different distances and software configurations.
Our current setup is a LoRa sx127x on 10 spreading factor, 250KHz bandwith, 4/5 coding rate, 14tx power, a payload length of eight integers using 868Mhz, explicit header, CRC on.
With our current LORA-ANT868 antennas both on the ground station and in the CanSat our range was an approximate 500 meters.
This will obviously not be enough, but we determined that with more fine tuning on the software side and better conditions this can be increased.
We have also started developing a Yagi antenna for the ground station which could increase our range dramatically.
Some photos and a video showcasing the test. (The little orange smudge being Áron holding the LoRa transmitter approximately 500 meters away.)
